week ten: iphone photos

this has been a nice routine week… I’m finally back in the swing of things at work… and our boy is on a sleeping schedule (what?! yeah.)… it’s been a pretty sweet week… if katherine wasn’t in colorado and we could’ve had our playdate… would have been even better… but you can’t have everything, right?

monday was pretty chill. john had to go to school and then straight to work… so, I decided to use my spare time (what’s that?) to make lunch/dinner… we turkey, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce… thanks for the idea katherine! it was delish. I ADORE my kitchenaid mixer. I think everyone who spends anytime cooking NEEDS one. plus, look how cute she is!

baxter’s been acting out like you would not believe lately. I’ve had a couple of moments where I wanted to scream… I understand his plight though… so I can’t be too too upset… but lord, please help him adjust. I can’t take too much more of this! but when he does this? I mean look at that face!

tuesday was back to work. it was a good day. this is our doc assistant. he’s so good with the animals. as you can see, this kitty is lovin’ it. haha. they don’t always cooperate.

one of our techs lovin’ on a clients dog… seven. isn’t he the cutest? I got chihuahua fever from this dog. he’s such a love.

I didn’t want to put him down… and he’s moving to oregon with his owner! so sad! (for me anyway.)

this is what I woke up to wednesday morning. he’s such a morning person… definitely doesn’t take after his mama.

laundry all day all night… I’m sure you other mamas out there can relate. my kid spits up nonstop… I change his outfit about fortyfivethousandtimes a day. plus dipes… but I don’t mind that part…

when I came home from work thursday afternoon… john had to go to bed… so, g and I worked on tummy time in his room… isn’t he holding his head up so well?! I’m so excited.

my favorite person to hang out with. I love this kid. love him.

took baxter out to go potty while I warmed up the car friday morning… apparently he thought he was going to get to go. I was happy I had my phone on me… this was too cute not to catch a photo…

later in the day… when I got home from work, I needed some ingredients for dinner… so, g and I had to run to the store. as you can see, he was less than thrilled. (it was bath time… he LOVES bath time…)

saturday was a work day… as usual. this is my boss’ dog… we’re buddies. this is his version of “staying dead” for a treat. notice the treat is right next to him… he’s a smart little booger.

this is one of the techs with her baby. she held g in a pic for this post weeks ago… she’s much more comfortable holding her pooch…

when I got home from work… sbish fluff mail was waiting for me! aren’t they the cutest dipes EVER?!

leaving you with my favorite pic of the week. he fell asleep clutching my finger on saturday. I took that as… he missed his mama.

did you take pics of your week with a cameraphone? join us in the fun… link up at an awesome mama blog… a good life. we’re a fun bunch!

people and their pets.

so, as we all are well aware… I work in the veterinary field. I wasn’t going to blog much about this… because to me, well, it’s kind of boring… but something happened yesterday that made me want to scream… and punch someone! (and I’m not a violent person, incaseyouwerewondering.)

yesterday afternoon we got a phone call. a woman was frantic… irate actually. she was screaming to the technician that her cat was “pissing” all over her house and she was sick of it. the technician tried to schedule an appointment. “no!” the client said… “I want him dead, NOW!” she kept screaming this over and over to the technician… and finally settled on, “well, I’m bringing him in… I don’t care if I have to pay extra. I want him dead as soon as possible.”

the technician hung up the phone and we waited. not sure what it was going to be like when this woman arrived with this cat we had never seen before.

when she flew into the parking lot with her gigantic over-priced gas-guzzling suv… we knew it was her. she jumped out and ran to the door with the cat flung over her shoulders. she claimed he was ten… we all settled on about three. she practically threw the cat at the technician… barked at me asking what she owed… and ripped a check out of her checkbook… all the while, mumbling to herself, “I’ve spent over four thousand dollars fixing my carpet because of this damn cat…” I mumbled something back like, “oh yeah, interesting.” what do you say? the woman obviously has no heart. she can pay four thousand bucks to replace the carpet but cannot pay seventy for an office visit to see what’s going on with the cat?

worst part? the cat was fractious… we all wanted to NOT euthanize the pet… because the owner obviously didn’t care what we did with him… but we needed to examine and run a urinalysis on him to see what was going on. not. going. to. happen. he wasn’t having it.

here are two main problems with this scenario.

a: who knows if this cat is vaccinated for rabies… and without proof, it’s assumed that it’s not.

b: we have to chop it’s head off if it bites someone. (yep, the state requires it to test it for rabies. or six months quarantine, but who’s gonna pay for that? the cat is homeless.)

it was heartbreaking. I just don’t get it. why have a pet if you’re more attached to your carpet? accidents happen lady. it doesn’t have to be a common occurrence┬áif you bring it to the vet and find out what’s going on… but it happens… and most of the time, when a cat is urinating/defecating outside the litter box – it’s cat for – help! I don’t feel good! this just completely drives me nuts. cats and dogs die all the time because of irresponsible people. it makes my heart hurt.

all it takes is two seconds. if you’re considering getting a pet, just think to yourself, “can I really afford to take care of this dog/cat for the next ten to twenty years?” if the answer is no… or even maybe not… don’t do it! wait! there will be others when you’re READY. if everyone took this advice… we’d have a lot less moments like the above mentioned. I’m not trying to get preachy though. I got my little baxter when I couldn’t afford him… and that seemed to turn out well. sometimes, I think pets show up right when you need them… he certainly did that for me.

other than that, nothing too exciting happened at work. other than the woman who came in with a brand-spankin new puppy (so squishy and cute.)… and she kept telling me how she hated her 16 year old son because he was “disgusting.” what does that even mean? I’m not gonna lie though… it was highly entertaining. people are funny.

all is well on the home front. john has the weekend off… and so do I, yippee! so, I’m looking forward to some family time. all of us, no obligations…

gonna go back to cuddling with baxter and baby g now… toodloo!

for the love of work… ?

I’m not going to even try to deny it. I’ve been dreading going back to work. I mean anxiously, not sleeping at night, dreaaaaaaaaaading leaving my son for a set number of hours a day. I’ve thought and thought about how I could rearrange our finances to make it work… and really, we could make it work… but honestly, it’s nice to have a little extra… especially with the baby… and saving for another house… that’s probably priority number one right now. so, long story short, I have to return.

so, today. I went in just for an hour or two… so my co-worker could show me all the changes that have been made (we’re going paperless. woot!). I was all stressed out thinking there was going to be a ton of things for me to learn. nope. it’s pretty much all the same… and my co-worker and I get along famously, so it was nice to go in even if to just chat with her… and honestly, it was a GODSEND. because now, not only am I not anxious about going back… I’m excited. it was nice to be reminded why I love my job.

tomorrow is my first official day back… and I’m ready. I love our clients and their pets… and my co–workers are great… so, I’m looking forward to it. plus, I was actually needed for something while I was there… and I’m not gonna lie, that was nice to know too.

at the moment I’m sitting on the couch in my living room typing on my netbook… with my baby on my chest in his sling. I’m here to tell you, life doesn’t get much better than this. for some reason, something clicked the other day. I was changing his diaper and he looked at me… and the way he looked at me made my heart swell for some reason… like he knew who I was… and since then, I haven’t been able to put him down when we’re together. I could just cuddle him crazy, I swear. but I think it’s been better for the both of us. I”m more relaxed… he’s sleeping better… TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW – FOUR HOUR STRETCHES! woot! now I’m starting to feel like we’re really bonding… it’s kind of exciting.

so, I’m sure you can tell. I’m in a much better place today mood wise. thankthelordjesus… I guess anxiety will do that to you.

well, I”m getting off course and setting into ramblesville… so toodloo for now.
